...based on the novel Pesci grossi, pesci piccoli (Italo Calvino, I Racconti, ed. Mondadori), Sos puppos is the story of a woman that can’t stop crying, of a young boy that discovering her, finds himself fascinated by her size and her vulnerability, of an underwater word imense and full of analogies with the human one, where fishes live, all life long, with the signs of their hurt. The interior path of the woman through the discovery of the fishes’s secrets, allows her, in the end, to get out of her passiveness and physical immobility. Touching and creating a game with the octopus, symbol of the black stain devouring her, her body gets free and almost melt through an open dialogue with her pain...

Digital Materiality in Architecture. Por Gramazio and Kohler.

Digital Materiality in Architecture outlines the theoretical context for the full synthesis between digital and material processes in architectural design and fabrication. Projects and research from the architecture firm Gramazio & Kohler as well from their department at the Faculty of Architecture of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) illustrate the pervasive effect on the architectural physis that lies in Digital Materiality – the digital enrichment of material elements and processes.

About the editors:
Fabio Gramazio and Matthias Kohler are partners in the Zurich architecture and urbanism practice Gramazio & Kohler. The office’s projects include the Gantenbein winery façade, the Tanzhaus theatre for contemporary dance, the Christmas lights for the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich and the sWISH* Pavilion at the Swiss National Exposition Expo.02. Gramazio & Kohler’s contributions to exhibitions include Structural Oscillations, a structure built on-site by the transportable robotic unit, R-O-B, at the 2008 Architectural Biennial in Venice.
Together, Gramazio and Kohler hold the Chair for Architecture and Digital Fabrication DFAB at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). Their research focuses on the exploration of highly informed architectural elements and processes and produces design strategies for full-scale automated fabrication by the department’s robotic construction facility.

La investigación de Arata Isozaki en La casa del Hombre "Domus" esta dotando de un esplendor nuevo a su arquitectura. Ergonomía y abstracción. Regionalismo y modernidad se dan inusualmente la mano. Particularmente me interesa la conjunción de la pizarra tradicional con un moderno museo del siglo XXI. La extremada flexibilidad de su puesta en obra se adapta como un guante a las formas sinuosas diseñadas mediante CAD 3d.

"The Klein bottle is a descriptive model of a surface developed by topological mathematicians... ...The surfaces that mathematicians have developed hold intrigue for architects as they hold a promise of new spatial relationships and configurations. Technology (CAD) has played an important part in all this, it is now more possible to efficiently describe more complex shapes and spaces and communicate these to the build. Previously the more orthogonal means of communication – plans, sections and elevations naturally encourage buildings which are more easily described in these terms, i.e. boxes... This holiday house is situated on the Mornington Peninsula 1.5 hrs drive from Melbourne. It is located within the tee–tree on the sand dunes, a short distance from the wild 16th beach. From the outset MCR wanted a building that nestled within the tree line. That talked about journey and the playfulness of holiday time. What began as a spiral or shell like building developed into a more complex spiral, the Klein bottle. MCR were keen to be topologically true to the Klein bottle but it had to function as a home. We thought an origami version of the bottle would be achievable and hold some ironic fascination.... The house revolves around a central courtyard, a grand regal stair connecting all the levels. There is a sense of both being near and far to all occupants. Its endless, curling shell-like quality particularly in the tee tree brings about a comforting togetherness..."

"...the results of an extensive exploration with shadows, the One Day Poem Pavilion demonstrates the poetic, transitory, site-sensitive and time-based nature of light and shadow.
Using a complex array of perforations, the pavilion’s surface allows light to pass through creating shifting patterns, which–during specific times of the year–transform into the legible text of a poem. The specific arrangements of the perforations reveal different shadow-poems according to the solar calendar: a theme of new-life during the summer solstice, a reflection on the passing of time at the period of the winter solstice. The time-based nature of the poem–and the visitor’s time-based encounters with it–allow viewers to have different experiences either seeing a stanza of the poem or getting the whole poem. All of these possible experiences are equally valuable and have meanings unique to the individual. This technique has the potential for producing particular effects and meanings within an architectural environment. Without the use of a source of power other than the sun, this project uses light and shadow to push the boundaries of communication and experiential delight..."

No he podido resistirme a publicar este video. Me encanta Goldfrapp y el trabajo de Robert Hodgin es magnifico. Mas alla de enfocarse en el diseño final, trabaja sobre los datos para que su procesado genere esa imagen final.
En latinoamérica llaman a los ordenadores computadoras, que esta más próximo al término inglés, y es más fiel a lo que ellas hacen por nosotros. Procesar, computar datos. Al principio eran datos matemáticos. Hoy su código binario, combinado con interfaces cada vez mas ergonómicas, lo acercan a todos los procesos de la actividad humana, incluido, por supuesto, el diseño y la creación. Hubo un tiempo en que diseñadores y arquitectos, lo utilizábamos para modelar y colorear imágenes que documentaran nuestras ideas. Sin embargo, cada vez más el ordenador se está convirtiendo en una parte del proceso de diseño en si mismo, mas allá de la creación de la documentación necesaria para su formalización. Un ejemplo es el trabajo de Robert Hodgin con Processing. Esto abre un debate interesante, para mi, sobre el diseño en general. Progresivamente se esta abandonando el procedimiento clásico en el que se conocían los resultados, que no eran sino una variación constante sobre los modelos ya conocidos, a los que se les sometía a cambios azarosos, pero muy limitados. Por un proceso en el que se otorga a "la creación" mayor libertad para desarrollarse a nuestras espaldas, aunque dentro de un sistema de leyes creado por nosotros. Si Frankenstein levantara la cabeza.
